Seizoen vooruitblik: American League East

Boston Red Sox (24-36) Met een 24-36 record waren de Boston Red Sox ver verwijderd van de play-offs. Waar de club in 2018 nog de World Series won daar vonden zij zich in 2020 terug op de laatste plek in de divisie, met maar liefst 16 overwinningen achterstand op de divisie winnende Tampa Bay Rays. In plaats van sportieve prestaties lag de focus in Boston met name op veranderingen in de organisatie zelf. De Nederlander Didi Gregorius gold jarenlang als een gewaardeerd lid van de New York Yankees. Vorig jaar rond deze tijd cirkelden de geruchten rond dat Gregorius in onderhandeling was over een nieuw meerjarig contract in de Bronx.  De verwachtingen van Yankees-volgers was dat een verlenging van Sir Didi slechts een formaliteit was. Echter, Een nieuwe blessure, licht verminderde productie op het veld en een veranderde visie op de invulling van de korte stop positie van de New Yorkse beleidsmakers zorgde ervoor dat Gregorius aan het einde van afgelopen seizoen zomaar opzoek moest naar een nieuwe werkgever. Tyler Lyons is een Yankee! De 30-jarige pitcher heeft vandaag een minor league contract getekend bij de iconische franchise.  Hiermee is Lyons, na David Hernandez en Ryan Dull, al de derde reliever die deze week is aangetrokken door de club uit New York. In de Front office van de Yankees zijn ze op hun hoede voor cruciale blessures en derhalve zijn zij deze week druk bezig om voor meer diepte te zorgen voor hun bullpen.
