Sir Didi tekent opnieuw bij Phillies

Didi ‘Sir Didi’ Gregorius heeft opnieuw een contract getekend bij de Philadelphia Phillies. Vorig jaar tekende Gregorius een éénjarig contract bij de Phillies, om zijn waarde op te krikken. Zijn goede prestaties in het afgelopen jaar worden beloond met een nieuw tweejarig contract om uit te blijven komen voor de club uit ‘The city of brotherly love‘. Gregorius tekent een contract in dezelfde week als zijn twee meest voorname concurrenten voor de korte stop positie op de vrije markt, Simmons en Semien. Van de drie tekent Gregorius het meest lucratieve contract, toch zou hij misschien stiekem toch hebben gehoopt op een langer lopend contract.

De Nederlander Didi Gregorius gold jarenlang als een gewaardeerd lid van de New York Yankees. Vorig jaar rond deze tijd cirkelden de geruchten rond dat Gregorius in onderhandeling was over een nieuw meerjarig contract in de Bronx.  De verwachtingen van Yankees-volgers was dat een verlenging van Sir Didi slechts een formaliteit was. Echter, Een nieuwe blessure, licht verminderde productie op het veld en een veranderde visie op de invulling van de korte stop positie van de New Yorkse beleidsmakers zorgde ervoor dat Gregorius aan het einde van afgelopen seizoen zomaar opzoek moest naar een nieuwe werkgever.
