Het is nog onduidelijk wanneer het Major league seizoen van start gaat, maar wanneer het zover is geldt  Joe Musgrove  als één van de pitchers die opzoek gaat naar zijn definitieve doorbraak. Rick Porcello tekent op 13 december 2019 een éénjarig contract bij de New York Mets ter waarde van 10 miljoen dollar. Porcello krijgt hiermee één jaar om zich te bewijzen en een nieuw langdurig contract te verdienen. De Mets krijgen een pitcher waarvan ze weten dat hij niet blessuregevoelig is, die veel inningen voor zijn rekening kan nemen, maar waarvan het niveau van die inningen uiterst onzeker is. Porcello’s carrière laat zich het best omschrijven als een jojo-carrière. Geweldige hoogtepunten laten zich opvolgen door dieptepunten.  Het raarste feit aan zijn carrière? De Nederlander Didi Gregorius gold jarenlang als een gewaardeerd lid van de New York Yankees. Vorig jaar rond deze tijd cirkelden de geruchten rond dat Gregorius in onderhandeling was over een nieuw meerjarig contract in de Bronx.  De verwachtingen van Yankees-volgers was dat een verlenging van Sir Didi slechts een formaliteit was. Echter, Een nieuwe blessure, licht verminderde productie op het veld en een veranderde visie op de invulling van de korte stop positie van de New Yorkse beleidsmakers zorgde ervoor dat Gregorius aan het einde van afgelopen seizoen zomaar opzoek moest naar een nieuwe werkgever.
