Het was een drukke dag voor de korte stoppen zonder contract. Maar liefst drie van de beschikbare korte stoppen tekenden een contract op dezelfde dag. Andrelton Simmons tekent bij de Twins, Marcus Semien tekent bij de Toronto Blue Jays en Freddy Galvis vertrekt naar Baltimore om te gaan spelen voor de Orioles.

De kogel is door de kerk! Koninkrijk speler Andrelton Simmons heeft zijn keuze gemaakt en hij tekent een eenjarig contract bij de Minnesota Twins. Na de Atlanta Braves en de Anaheim Angels is dit de derde Major League club waar Simmons onder contract komt te staan. De viervoudige winnaar van de gouden handschoen (beste verdedigende speler op zijn positie) hoopt dat zijn defensieve kwaliteiten zullen bijdragen aan play-off succes voor de Twins

Billy Hamilton naar de Braves

De Atlanta Braves hebben Billy Hamilton geclaimd van de waivers-lijst. De 28-jarige Hamilton vult een gat op bij de Braves die is ontstaan door blessures van Nick Markakis en Ender Inciarte. Als gevolg van deze blessures waren de Braves opzoek naar linkshandige slagmensen en Hamilton zal hierin als noodverband dienen. Daarnaast is de snelheid van de voormalig Royal een wapen in gelijk opgaande wedstrijden. De laatste weken komt een geruchtenstroom opgang waarin wordt gesuggereerd dat 2019 het laatste van Mookie Betts in Boston kan zijn. De MVP van 2018 staat op de nominatie om in 2020 een free-agent te worden en hij heeft eerder een aanbod van de Red Sox om zijn contract te verlengen afgewezen. Gaan de Sox’s een Babe Ruth-achtig scenario beleven en hun sterspeler verliezen aan één van hun concurrenten? Het lijkt onwaarschijnlijk dat, mocht hij de keuze hebben, Betts bij een franchise tekent die niet een grote afzetmarkt (en daarmee budget) heeft. De 27-jarige slugger Castellanos verwacht niet dat hij een nieuw contract krijgt aangeboden bij zijn huidige ploeg de Detroit Tigers. Dit betekend dat hij aan het einde van het jaar een  free agent wordt.
